Forged Perfection from "The Hands of God"

Katsuhiro Miura has spent 5 years perfecting the KM-700. Designed to deliver the club head to square at impact, this revolutionary design is made possible only by Miura’s proprietary manufacturing techniques in concert with the grinding expertise of the Miura Craftsmen. The never ending search for perfection included numerous iterations of the head, all the while searching for the optimum weight distribution. The result is a club which will allow all golfers to get the most out of their game.

OPTIMIZED PERFORMANCE

The unique shape and weight distribution on the back of the head optimizes the center of gravity position for each iron. This revolutionary club head design, seen most notably with the toe grind, also promotes a return to square at impact, benefitting all golfers.

MORE FORGIVENESS

This club head also features a revolutionary hosel and heel design which allows for moving the center of gravity 3mm closer to the toe, 35mm from the heel. (7 iron) The bigger “sweet spot” promotes a playability which is similar to what one might see in a wood. Off center hits are straighter and farther.

STAMP OF APPROVAL

The five-year journey that led to the creation of the KM-700 involved Miura-san’s mentoring of future generations of Miura Craftsmen. A suggestion by one of his proteges, in fact, contributed to the innovative design of these irons. While searching for optimum weight distribution, numerous iterations of the head were designed until the result of a playable club for golfers of all levels was achieved. This achievement is signified by Miura-san’s stamp of approval, the red hanko stamp, on the back cavity of every iron.

Tech overview
REVOLUTIONARY SOLE DESIGN

A key component to the playability of this iron is in the toe- cut grind visible on the sole. Optimized camber and precise bounce promotes the best ball-on-club-face contact, regardless of the lie or turf conditions.

ANALYZING THE UNIQUE SHAPE

One might think that the grinding process is responsible for the look and performance of the KM-700. But it is in fact earlier in the process, during the third strike, where the club is heated to 800-900 degrees centigrade allowing for the manipulation of the soft carbon steel into the shape that the grinders then receive for the finishing parts of the process.

Switching to KM700 Was a “Victory”

When these were teased and first came out, I had no intention of moving on from the CB301s I had been playing for over 2 years. I loved the unique look and loved the idea of a “forgiving” blade, but as another reviewer said, I didn’t need the KM700s. I had been playing good golf and had dropped my handicap from a 12 to 8 over the last year. What inspired me to switch? First, I wanted to switch to graphite shafts due to ongoing wrist/elbow issues. As well as I was playing and as much as I loved the CB301, I also wanted a smaller profile and thinner sole that would feel better getting through the turf. I then started looking at the KM700 again and decided to do a fitting to see if there was improvement from the CB301 for my game. There was, and the numbers have translated to the course.

Having put in significant practicing and playing with the KM700 since getting them, I love these irons! The KM700 is a blade, but it is not as intimidating as other blades. It also does not punish less than perfect contact as significantly as other blade irons/players irons I have tried in the past. Compared to the CB301, I have been able to maintain the same distances but am now hitting the ball a bit higher and with more control due to the differences between the two clubs. In terms of size, the KM700 is shorter heel to toe and has a narrower sole and topline than the CB301, but not to the point that the CB301 suddenly feels like a big/SGI iron.

The difference in turf interaction and feel…

    Best Ever

Master craftsman Katsuhiro Miura talks about the KM-700 iron, which took him five years to create.

TaylorMade's P770 had no major complaints so far and was supposed to fit in my bag until the end of this year...

The only complaint is the variation in distance.

Due to the trampoline effect unique to hollow golf balls, if you hit the ball just right at the center of the face, you will get more distance than you expected.

On the other hand, if the lie is bad and you hit the ball with the lower eye of the face, you will lose a lot of distance.

Based on that, it seems that they have cultivated a sense of distance up until now, and it wasn't a big problem.

This time I headed to my favorite golf workshop to replace the shaft of my DR.

    The owner, Chip Usher,

``Toshi! Miura's new irons will be released soon, this is the iron,'' he said as he handed it to me.

"Muscle back? I can't hit it anymore!"

He said, ``It's okay! He's kind.''

As I picked it up and looked at it, a certain emotion began to dawn on me.

    love at first sight!

I have been through a long process of selecting golf clubs, but it was the same shock I had when I met my first wife💕.

"Beautiful! A silhouette that looks just like a Japanese sword."

I asked if he came in anytime.

"It's scheduled to arrive in June! If you need it, the first thing to do is waste it."

    I said, “Please!”

I remember it as it was in the middle of March.

After 4 months of waiting, I finally got it.

It was the day before the battle tournament, and I…

KM-700 After 10+ Rounds and 20+ Range Sessions

I did not need these clubs. But I wanted them - rewarding myself as I approach retirement. Absolutely beautiful out of the box. Waited until I played with them multiple times before submitting a review. Bought head covers but I don't use them now. The KM-700's, suspect like all Miura products, are incredibly solid. They will pick up small nicks and dings over time but I didn't get them to sit in a bag in the garage. Previously playing CB-716's with DG X-100's (which were given to me) and will keep those as a back up. OK - how do they play: Feel is awesome. I feel like I get a drop off in distance if I hit the ball thin compared to the old clubs (but that's my fault). A good strike is rewarded with a great ball flight and an incredible feel. Biggest challenge I had at first was adjusting to a slightly different swing weight (KM-700's are Oban 125S). Sounds stupid - but even a couple of grams seemed to give me issues with timing (so note - that's not the clubs fault). Playing 5 - PW. Hit the 7 iron ~155 yard - the same as before with about the same lofts. Yes, I can hit it further if I swing harder but I don't want to. The 5 and 6 irons look slightly bigger to me than the old clubs and find them a bit easier to hit. I am a high single digit handicapper and I'm "good enough" to play them. Will send another review in 2033.

    Mid handicapper on KM700

Honestly at first, it was all about the looks that made me want them but I was worried if I made a mistake and given up my JPX921 forge.

But once I managed get them on the range and the course it took me a few sessions to understand what I was able to achieve. I didn't lose distance, I was able still hit my 7i 170+yrds but Im able to shape it and control my ball flight and the most surprising was there was still some forgiveness not a lot but enough for me, I felt comfortable that I'm consistent on ball strikes; overall I love the fact I feel so confident when I address the ball with my 4i and its the same confidence as I would with my 7i and PW.
