Feel the Difference: Why Should I Use a Copper Finish?

What Is a Copper Finish in Golf?

A copper finish is a premium, multi-step treatment that delivers exceptional feel, a rich vintage aesthetic, and a surface that evolves over time. Valued for both its performance characteristics and visual depth, copper highlights the craftsmanship of a forged club while allowing each set to develop its own unique character.

Feel & Response

Copper is naturally soft, and when paired with Miura’s forging process, it contributes to a smooth yet responsive feel at impact. The result is clear, precise feedback—favored by players who value connection to the strike and consistency throughout the set.

The Copper Finish Process

Miura’s copper finish is achieved through a layered plating process. First, the clubhead is copper plated. A black nickel layer is then applied over the copper. Finally, the head is carefully buffed back, removing portions of the black nickel to intentionally expose copper beneath.

This final step is what creates the finish’s vintage appearance, revealing more of the forged grain structure and giving the club its distinctive depth and character.

Natural Wear & Patina

Over time, the black nickel layer gradually wears through use, revealing more copper underneath. This natural progression means no two sets age the same—each develops a unique look based on how and where it’s played.

The visual wear and patina are purely cosmetic and do not affect the structural integrity or performance of the clubhead.

Consistency & Control

Despite its evolving appearance, the copper finish maintains consistent performance characteristics. Ball flight, distance control, and feel remain stable throughout the life of the club, ensuring that changes over time are visual—not functional.

Headweight & Finish Differences

Copper-finished heads use standard head weights, consistent with Miura’s satin finishes. This is distinctly different from QPQ, which is a diffusion-based process rather than a plated finish. Because QPQ adds material differently, QPQ heads are heavier, requiring raw heads to start lighter before treatment.

Miura Copper Finishes

Miura’s copper finish reflects the brand’s dedication to precision, craftsmanship, and timeless design. Currently, this finish is featured on the KM-700 Copper, pairing one of Miura’s most iconic iron designs with a finish that continues to evolve with play.
